Dental Inlays and Onlays

What are Dental Inlays and Onlays?

Both dental Inlays & Onlays have a similar purpose; however, Inlays are used to treat the indented top surfaces of the tooth while the Onlays treat larger surface areas.

Both procedures generally require two visits. The first visit is required for the dentist to prepare the damaged tooth, take impressions and installing temporary restorations. Your impressions are then sent to the lab for them to create your Inlays & Onlays. The second visit is to place and bond to your teeth.

What are some of the advantages of Dental Inlays & Onlays?

  • The porcelain restoration can match very easily to your existing teeth. They look better aesthetically then gold or amalga
  • If done properly, Inlays & Onlays should function like your natural teeth
  • They are stain resistant
  • The porcelain inserts are considered very strong and once bonded, add significant strength to your once damaged tooth.
